4K YouTube Video Downloader — what makes this one different

Something almost no downloader explains: YouTube only publishes H.264 — the codec every device on earth plays — up to 1080p. Above that, 1440p and 2160p exist solely as VP9 or AV1, with no sound attached at all. So the huge resolution you were promised arrives in a format an older laptop, a smart TV or a car stereo may simply refuse, and it arrives silent unless the tool rejoins the audio itself.

That is the trap behind the 4K button on most of these sites. Tools filtering for "MP4 with sound" find nothing above 1080p, hand you 1080p, and leave the 4K button on the page anyway. Others hand you the video-only stream and let you discover the silence at home.

This site takes a different route and stops at 720p, in H.264, with the audio already merged. That is a deliberate trade. You lose pixels you were unlikely to see on a phone; you gain a file about a ninth the size, that starts saving immediately and opens anywhere without a converter. If your reason for wanting 2160p is a large screen or an editing timeline, a desktop application is a better fit than any browser tool, and it is worth saying so rather than selling you something else.

  • Plays anywhereH.264 in an MP4 — no codec surprises on older hardware.
  • Sound already attachedThe audio is merged in before you get the file, never after.
  • Honest about the limit720p is the ceiling and the page says so up front.

4K YouTube Video Downloader FAQ

Can this download 2160p from YouTube?

No — 720p is the ceiling here. YouTube does publish 1440p and 2160p on many videos, but saving them means moving several hundred megabytes per download, which is not something a free tool can sustain.

Why do other downloaders give me 1080p when I ask for 4K?

Because they filter for streams that already contain audio, and YouTube publishes none above 1080p. Genuine 2160p means fetching video and sound separately and merging them, which most sites skip while leaving the button in place.

Is 720p enough for a phone?

Comfortably. A modern phone screen cannot resolve much beyond it at normal viewing distance, which is why the saving in size costs so little in practice. On a desktop monitor at full screen you would begin to see the difference.

What about Shorts?

Shorts are vertical, so the ceiling applies to the short side: you get 720x1280, not a squashed 405x720. That distinction catches out a surprising number of tools.

Can I get just the audio?

Yes. Pick the MP3 row and no video is transferred at all — usually a few megabytes, and the fastest thing on the list.
