Facebook video, not the blurry one.

Facebook stores an SD copy and a sharper one. The usual complaint about downloads is not resolution — it is ending up with the wrong copy.

Facebook Video Downloader HD — what makes this one different

Facebook publishes each video at least twice — a small encode for slow connections and a sharper one for everybody else — and hands the player whichever fits the moment. Tools that simply grab "the video" tend to take the small one, because it happens to appear first in the list. That is the real reason so many saved Facebook videos look worse than they did in the feed, and it has nothing to do with pixel counts.

This picks by picture quality rather than by whichever entry came first, then saves at up to 720 pixels on the short side. If the post only holds a small encode, you get that and the list says so plainly rather than inventing an HD badge for it.

The 720p ceiling is deliberate. Most Facebook video tops out around 1080p anyway, so the step down is one notch, not the chasm the marketing on other sites implies — and it buys a file roughly half the size that starts saving straight away. For watching, sending on, or keeping, that is the better end of the trade.

Facebook Video Downloader HD FAQ

Why does my Facebook download look worse than the video did?

Nearly always because the tool took the low-quality encode rather than the sharp one. The rows here are sorted by actual picture quality, so the top one is the good copy.

What resolution will I get?

Up to 720 pixels on the short side — 1280x720 for a normal video, 720x1280 for a vertical Reel. If Facebook only holds something smaller, you get that and the row says what it is.

Does every Facebook video have a sharp version?

No. It exists only when the uploader provided a decent source. A single low row in the list means that is genuinely all Facebook stored.

Is 4K possible on Facebook?

Very rarely, and not from this tool in any case. The overwhelming majority of Facebook video tops out near 1080p, so tools advertising 4K there are describing something that mostly does not exist.

Does saving re-compress the video?

No. Facebook’s own stream is transferred as published; separate video and audio are merged without touching the picture, so there is no extra generation of compression.
